Our Approach

On bringing your bicycle to us we will go through your requirements with you and discuss any additional work that may need carrying out – should this change when work has started we will endeavour to contact you to discuss this. We will also give you an estimate of costs involved and a date/time for collection.

We will give you an estimate because we believe that fixed price servicing is a nonsense; even at the same point in a service cycle, no two bikes require the exact same jobs to be performed. More to the point, performing the exact same jobs on two different bikes will take different amounts of time.

So, whilst fixed price servicing is ostensibly designed to give customers confidence in what they’re getting (and what the bill will be), it actually reduces transparency and only ensures three things:

  1. You (and your bike) don’t receive the individual service you deserve
  2. If your bike is an “easy job”, you get poor value, or
  3. If your bike is a “tough job”, the work may be rushed (or some things may not get done at all).

We are always grateful to receive bikes in a clean condition for us to work on. Excessively dirty machines will be subject to a cleaning charge over and above any service/repair costs.

As a small local bike shop we have lower overheads than some of the ‘big boys’ and we are confident we deliver excellent value and excellent work.

Workshop Services

We are a qualified service centre for both Bosch and Shimano e-bikes. We have a solid understanding of the engineering principles behind mid-drive and hub motor e-bikes and will happily take on most servicing and repair on all makes and models of e-bikes. One thing we will not do however is to ‘dongle’ your bike so that the motor will deliver drive past the legally proscribed limit of 25 km/hr (this stops it being an e-bike and turns it into an electric motorcycle that should have number plates, lights and insurance).

We provide a full wheelbuilding service from simple trueing to complete builds of any wheel you might like. Riding around Sheffield is unforgiving to wheel rims – bad roads, lots of hills and a local geology famous for it’s ability to grind away metal all take their toll.
We stock a variety of wheels in store for most needs and can supply and fit wheels from Halo, Hope, Hunt, Mavic, DT Swiss, Shimano and many more.

Our most popular custom built wheels are often based on Hope Hubs for their ultimate reliability with rims, spokes, nipples and lacing pattern chosen to suit each riders tyre preference and riding style.

We carry out a variety of frame repairs including, but not limited to:

  • Replacement of rivnuts to mount bottle cages racks and mudguards.
  • Treatment of rust.
  • Tapping and facing of bottom brackets, headtubes, disc brake mounts and dropouts.
  • Reaming of seatubes.
  • Removal of seized seatposts.  This is often a time consuming and demanding job, prices vary according to severity.
  • Cold setting frame alignment – basically straightening steel frames so that both wheel are in a straight line.  Cold setting is not suitable for all grades of steel but we know where it is safe to do so.  Minor alignment correction is possible on some aluminium frames – please bring your bike in to discuss if this would be suitable for you.

Maybe you are looking for that ultimate dream bike, or want something very specific that you just can’t find in a ‘stock’ bicycle, in which case our custom build service might be what you need. From Titanium all-rounders to Rohloff-equipped world-touring bicycles pop into the shop to have a chat about what you are after and what we can do. You choose your frame, groupset, wheels and finishing kit and leave the rest to us!

There are some great deals available on mail order bikes, frames and groupsets, but we believe there is still a lot to be said for having your bike properly set up and checked over. We will happily assemble bike where you have sourced your own parts, or check over bikes that have been delivered ‘complete’. For example you can even have your Canyon, Airdrop, YT or other ‘direct sale’ bike delivered straight to the shop – no waiting for couriers, no drowning in cardboard boxes, just clip in and ride away.

We undertake most repairs/restorations/builds – but, very importantly, we do know our limitations – some suspension components requiring repair/service are sent away to specialists in this field. We have the equipment to pressurise air shocks with air, but we won’t do it.You won’t be able to tell the difference between air and nitrogen when you’re riding, but the oxygen and the moisture will knacker your internals over time.Conventional fork servicing we can do, and we do it well.

Pricing

Sometimes we will be unable to match prices on certain parts, but we always appreciate our customers asking if we can – we may have to charge you some labour on fitting on price matched parts that we would otherwise fit for free if purchase at normal retail.

We are happy to advise on component compatibility and suitability within reason even if you are shopping elsewhere.
