Several years ago, we launched the Krampus because we wanted something that was more than a mountain bike but less than a fat bike. We dubbed it a “plus bike” and set it loose on the world. It turns out, people were into it and we were absolutely tickled. Krampus changed the way many people approach trail riding. It showed people the light of how higher volume, larger diameter tires can vastly improve the ride experience. It’s also done a bang-up job dispelling the myth that big tyres make you slow.
Krampus features our Gnot-Boost rear spacing, so it can take whatever mountain bike hub you feel compelled to ride. 10 x 135mm QR, 12 x 142, or 12 x 148 Boost™ will all work. Gneat, huh? Geometry-wise, Krampus is kind of like the opposite of a mullet: long in the front and short in the rear. With a long toptube and compact chainstays, it takes trail-shredding abilities to the next level. A mullet may be business in the front, party in the back but the Krampus makes partying its business. To further make the trail cower before you, Krampus is equipped with some stealthy dropper post routing.
The Krampus frame is constructed using the same custom-designed, frame-specific, Surly CroMoly “’Natch” steel tubes found on many of our other trail bikes. The main triangle’s tubes are internally butted with some tubes externally tapered, flared like a trumpet and ovalized to add stiffness and strength without adding weight. When you add in the 3” tyres, it makes for a resilient and lively ride that’s durable and fun as hell.
If you’re looking to ride through/over/off of obstacles, may the Krampus be your mighty steed. As our Engineer, Thor, puts it: “Lean back, hang on, and ride that wild horse.”
Medium and Large still available. Want to try before you buy, ask about our Krampus demo bike!
